Oddles of Googles

Google Guide's Crafting Queries will help you ask your questions in ways that creates a more useful list of results. Some are simple like using quotes for words as a phrase. Some I hadn't heard of, like Google allowing a wildcard to leave out a word in a phrase. She has tips for teachers using Google to check for plagerism.

Nancy Blachman creates this page and has a wide variety of tips. She is also one of the co-writers of the new book - How to do Everything with Google.

Attention All Shoppers

I don't know if it is a reference tip, but we do have lots of people who research purchases in the library. If you don't have Consumer Report ready at hand, try some of these.
Consumer.gov will take you to information from the government, including how to sign up for the Do Not Call List. Consumer Union is the parent company organization of Consumer Report and they have some free information available.Consumer Web Watch is also run by Consumer Union and focuses on web based businesses and safe online shopping. Find It Consumer is a project of the Washington State Library and it includes information from 100 consumer protection and public safety Web sites.

From Cat Schwartz of Call for Help comes several good places to get online coupon codes for discounts. One is SavingCenter.com. She also likes ConsumerNow.com. To find coupon codes you will need to click on the Coupon tabs..

I hope this leads you to great purchases and maybe some great savings.
